We took our first real family vacation last week – a trip to
the beach! We haven’t taken Graham with us on any big getaways because, being
so young, we never felt like he would really enjoy or appreciate it. And,
sometimes it’s nice for Nate and I to have a little adult/together-time while
Graham gets quality time with his grandparents without us around.
For this trip we went to Virginia Beach! We have gone on
several vacations with our friends, Cristin & Jon, in the past – however, those
vacations have typically been to tropical destinations. Since they recently had
a baby, I’m pregnant and we wanted to take Graham on a trip with us – a visit
to see Cristin, Jon and Austin in Virginia Beach was the perfect solution! And,
what a great getaway it was! We flew out on Wednesday morning – Graham was SO
excited to ride on the airplane that matched his “new cool airplane” (a SW toy I
bought him when I went to Nashville last summer…so not a new toy at all :)). And, to top it off,
he got to ride on a bus (aka – shuttle) from the parking lot to the terminals…without
his car seat. He kept saying how awesome everything was…from the bus…to the
airplane…to the apple juice he got to drink on the flight. Everything was so
exciting for him…and therefore exciting for Nate and me too!
When we arrived, Cristin and Jon spoiled us rotten – they were
the best hosts! Nate and I have both been to Virginia Beach in the past but it
was fun to go back, see Cristin & Jon’s new (and gorgeous!) home, spend
quality time with our great friends and play with their adorable little baby
boy! The first full day we were there was a little chilly and cloudy so we took
Graham for ice cream and to a place called Cloud 9 which has tons of
trampolines and foam pits for him to run and jump on. As you can imagine, he
was a big fan! Friday was much nicer (about a 30 degree temperature swing) –
the sun was out and it was warm…hello, Beach Day! Nate went to work with Jon
that morning so when they got home, we were dressed and ready to head out. We
grabbed sandwiches and headed for the beach. It was pretty windy which caused
some eating and baby challenges, but the kiddos didn’t seem to mind. Graham was
in heaven! The water was freezing and we couldn’t keep the kid out of it…it
literally didn’t faze him at all! Graham would have stayed there forever but we
finally convinced him that it was time to leave. The little boys fell asleep on
the way back to the house which allowed Cristin and I to take a little drive so
I could check out their cute neighborhood. When we got back to the house, Graham
woke up enough to tell me that he wanted to go back in the water…sweet boy was
so tired from playing that he thought he was still at the beach. J After a short nap, he
was ready to BBQ and play outside more. We had to head home the next day…but,
Graham’s excitement didn’t end b/c we got to ride an airplane again. He was so
pooped by the end that he slept for two hours on the last flight…was awake for
a couple hours when we got home and then I had to wake him up the next morning
at 10:15!
